On the eve of his six-year milestone at the helm, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his continued role with the club is directly connected to winning major honors.

The Journey So Far: The Arteta Era

The former Arsenal captain assumed control on the 20th of December in 2019 and soon guided the team to an FA Cup triumph a short time later. However, that first major trophy remains his only top-tier trophy following the departure of Unai Emery.

“Yes,” the manager said when questioned about his future past 2027. “However, it is about today. And a lot of things must occur in the coming months as well to deserve that opportunity.”

During my tenure, I’ve seen just players with a degree of commitment, hunger for knowledge and dedicate themselves to the team.”

Regardless of the fitness woes and the immense scrutiny, Arteta believes the club's “focus and dialogue” are vastly different from when he first arrived.

He pointed to the squad's displays as evidence of progress. “Consider the performances, all the records that we... were breaking... We still haven’t managed to do that [win trophies]. But that tells you the level we are at.”

In closing, the manager stated, “It represents a quality that the Premier League has never experienced in the past. And our aim is to achieve greater objectives. And if we do that, I think we are on the proper course to winning.”
